A Message from the Principal

Principal's Weekly Message

December 3, 2021

Dear PS 64 Families,

Let the great season of anticipation begin! In this final month of the calendar year, we rejoice with our Jewish brethren, as Chanukah, the great Festival of Lights, began last Sunday.

· NYU Dental Program: We were pleased to welcome a team from the NYU School of Dentistry this week to provide free dental care to our students. If your child was seen, you received a written summary with follow-up, if necessary. Thank you, NYU. And, many thanks to our parent coordinator, Ms. Bosque, for organizing. We look forward to their return in the spring.

· Holiday Show: Our most excellent arts department (Ms. Smith, Mr. Michlin, and Mr. Baird) would like to showcase student work in a scaled-down holiday performance. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 22. To maintain physical distancing, there will be two performances, one for the lower house and one for the upper house. All families in attendance must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination upon entering the building. Details to follow.

· Exterior Work: Our building will undergo major exterior work to eliminate the water damage from the roof. There will be scaffolding around the entire perimeter of the building on or around January 1, 2022. It will be an eyesore for the next 18-24 months. A group of concerned TSMS parents, together with our elected officials, have requested that the project be postponed until the spring. In the event that they are unsuccessful, we must brace ourselves for not just the unappealing sight of scaffolding, but also all of the challenges that come with it.

· COVID-19 Vaccine: If you were unable to get to the pop-up site at the school, know that the vaccine is always available by appointment at our Ryan Health School Based Health Clinic.

· CEC Coffee Hour: Please see the attached flyer for a coffee hour with our CEC on Tuesday, December 7.

As we eagerly enter this holiday season in joyful hope of the coming of a new day, let us prepare ourselves by doing what is right and just. Wishing you glad tidings of comfort and joy, I remain,

Very truly yours,

Marlon L. Hosang
