What We Are Learning:
Fundations: In Fundations this week we learned about the letters lowercase l, h, k, v, w, y, x, qu, z and their corresponding sounds.
EL: We have continued our learning about tools and how they help us do our work. We sorted different types of tools and read a non-fiction text called Tools by Ann Morris. This work we specifically focused on tools that are used for cooking, eating, cutting and farming.
Students are also working on establishing discussion norms including listening with care, looking at the speaker, taking turns, and staying on topic.
Math: In math we continued our learning of subtracting one or two. We introduced -1 Bingo. Two players share a board and a die. The player rolls one die. Then they subtract one from their roll. They put a counter on the difference. The first person to get 5 in a row wins!
We also learned how to come up with pairs of numbers that equal 10. In order to build on this concept we played a game called Toss the chips. The student get 10 chips. The chips are red on one side and yellow on the other. They take turns and play with a partner. They gently toss the chips and then count the colors that it lands on.
