A Message from the Principal

Dear PS 64 Community,

I am writing to introduce myself as the new interim acting principal of PS 64.
I want to thank Mr. Marlon Hosang for his years of dedication to the school.
As I step into this role, I am filled with excitement and enthusiasm for the journey ahead, and I am eager to lead this vibrant and close-knit community. On Friday, September 8th, after drop-off, please join me for coffee and bagels in the schoolyard.

With 23 years of experience in education, I have had the privilege of working in NYC schools as a teacher, math coach, and assistant principal, which has deeply shaped my educational philosophy and approach. I am committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, and I am dedicated to ensuring that every student at PS 64 receives a high-quality education.

I began my career as a math and special educator at Greenwich Village Middle School in the West Village, part of District 2. After having two sons, I returned to serve public schools as a math coach. I was fortunate to work across the five boroughs as a math consultant, collaborating closely with teachers and principals to strengthen math instruction. For the past six years, I have been an assistant principal at Spruce Street, a public K-8 school while raising two teenage boys. I loved both of these tough roles.

I understand that change can bring both excitement and uncertainty, but I want to assure you that my top priority is the well-being and success of our students.

I am excited to partner with you to nurture and enrich experiences in and out of the classroom for our students. Together, I want to ensure our children feel a sense of belonging and joy as we achieve academic excellence.

In the coming weeks and months, I look forward to getting to know all of you and learning about the unique strengths and traditions that make PS64 a special place. I am committed to open communication and transparency, and I welcome your input, ideas, and feedback as we work together to shape the future of our school.

Before the first day, you can reach me via email at [email protected]. I am truly honored to lead the PS 64 family.

Warmly, Kara Levin
