A Message from the Principal

December 13, 2025

Dear P.S. 64 Families,

As December comes to an end and we feel the chill of winter, I am struck by how much we have accomplished together since September. The end of the year is always a natural time for reflection, and as I look back on 2025, my heart is full of pride for the PS64 community.

Celebrating Our Growth This month, our classrooms have been buzzing with activity. From our youngest learners mastering their letter sounds to our older students working with their peers to solve math problems, the academic growth is palpable. Beyond the books, it has been a joy to watch our students grow in character—showing kindness on the playground and bringing their unique energy to our robust arts programs. Seeing our community break bread together at the Family Feast was a highlight of my year and a beautiful reminder of why P.S. 64 is so special.

A Fresh Start for Attendance As we look ahead to 2026, the New Year offers us a wonderful opportunity for a "fresh start" regarding school attendance. Being in school every day is the most important way to ensure your child stays connected to their friends and their learning. We want to see every student’s face in the building as we kick off the second half of the year. Let’s work together to make "showing up" our collective New Year’s resolution—every day counts!

Staying Inspired Over the Break While the school building will be closed, the learning doesn't have to stop! We encourage our students to stay curious and active over the winter recess:

  • Explore the City: Don’t forget to use your Cool Culture Cards! This is a wonderful time to visit Manhattan’s world-class museums for free.
  • Visit the Library: Stop by the NYPL and pick up some great books. Reading together is the perfect way to spend a chilly afternoon.
  • Digital Learning: For our 3rd through 5th graders, please remember to practice on I-Ready using your Chromebooks to keep those skills sharp.
  • Become an Expert: Encourage your child to research their current EL topic. Whether they are fascinated by frogs, the rainforest, weather, fossils, animal defenses, or the sun, moon, and stars, there is always more to discover!

Important Reminders:

  • Winter Recess: School will be closed from December 24th through January 2nd.
  • Return to School: We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, January 5th, 2026!
  • Stay Warm: Please send students with warm coats and hats for outdoor recess.  Please let us know if we could help with any of these items!

On behalf of the entire staff at P.S. 64, I wish you a peaceful holiday season and a New Year filled with health and happiness. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Warmly,

Kara
